Observed on May 12 annually, International Nurses day will be celebrated under the theme “Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving Health Systems Resilience”. The Ministry of Health and Environment and the Nursing Service in collaboration with the Dominica Nurses Association will celebrate nurses and nursing with a week of activities running from May 10th to 14th, 2016.
According to a press release, the week of activities was launched with a church service on Tuesday 10th May 2016. Other highlights of Nurses week will be an educational symposium for nurses on May 11th emphasizing professional conduct, customer service and mentoring and coaching; a public speaking competition on May 12th on the theme for nurses week; and an Appreciation Ceremony for nurses on May 13th, 2016. The public is invited to join the nurses in these celebrations as these activities are set to, promote recognition of the value of the nurse in the health system, improve the public image of the nurse in the Commonwealth of Dominica, as well as Improve overall staff morale among others. International Nurses day is celebrated globally each year on May 12th to commemorate the birthday of Florence Nightingale the nursing legend and founder of modern nursing.
