The 2016 Calypso Finals is over, and King ‘Dice’ has captured the crown for the eighth time. The judges’ decision was generally well accepted. However, Janae Jackson’s father, Ian Jackson has taken issue with the sound system at calypso finals. His daughter did not find favour with the judges, and was not included among the top three winners.
Jackson took to the airwaves at Q95 first thin this morning, where he revealed the contents of a letter that he had written to the Dominica Calypso Association, with his concerns about the quality of the sound system when his daughter was performing on stage, including what he called technical distortions that Janae endured in her first round rendition of “Gratitude”. Meanwhile, the engineer who mixed the music during the show, informed Q95’s Hot Seat Host Matt Peltier, that one of the problems was that there was no sound check before the show was staged, and that may have affected the first round in some ways. Ian Jackson, who is the father of Janae Jackson, and also the Coordinator of “Team Janae” called for an investigation as to whether it was mere coincidence, ineptitude, one man’s disgust or part of a bigger concocted plan to frustrate young talent. He stated that Janae had two of the best songs in the competition, but the Judges appeared to have given some preference to political songs.
