Kaila–Ann Guiste, a Grade 3 Violin student and Marie Pascale Affana, a Grade 3 Flute student have tied for Student of the Year.
This, after Seventy eight (78) students entered for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Dominica Association of Music Educators (DAME) practical exams from April 27 – May 2, 2016 at the UWI Open Campus. According to a release, students were drawn from the Henckel and Muriel Studio, Valena Letang, Christian Musical Class, Huguette Andrew St. Hillaire, Marie School of Music, Tyson Johnson, Alicia Lestrade and Norman Jean Jacques. Forty (40) students took the ABRSM exams: 7 received Distinctions, 21 Merits and 12 Passes while 38 students took the DAME local exams; 11 received Distinctions, 15 Merits and 11 Passes. Marie Pascale Affana and Kaila-Ann Guiste tied for the highest score in the ABRSM exam. Meanwhile, DAME Top student is Kianna Benjamin a Grade 2 Piano student. Students were examined on Flute, Recorder, Guitar, Violin, Piano, Clarinet, Trumpet, Euphonium, Trombone, Saxophone and Singing. A High Scorers Concert will be held on Thursday 12th May 2016 at Fort Young Hotel at 6.30p.m to award students who obtained the highest scores.

Kaila Ann is a violinist not a guitarist. Congrats to both girls.
