Kalinago Youth Council will host 1st Annual Youth Assembly to coincide with IIPD 2016 celebrations8/5/2016 Kalinago Youth Council (KYC) will host its 1st Annual Youth Assembly on August 9, 2016, coinciding with International Indigenous Peoples Day 2016. Inauguration of its Executive body will also take place at that time.
The event will be hosted under this year’s theme, “Indigenous Peoples’ Right to Education; engaging youth in informative dialogue’’ with guest presentations on the importance of education in the development of indigenous youth as well as presentations on youth and business. The event will provide opportunities to engage in group discussions and presentations on issues which affect them, with respect to education and business development. The Assembly will take place at the Sineku Enterprise Centre, from 10:00 pm through to 3:00pm. The incoming eight (8) member Executive Board was elected on May19, 2016. The General Secretary is appointed by the incoming executive. The new KYC Executive has developed a work document covering priority areas of development for the Kalinago Youth Community, such as Preservation of Culture and Heritage; Environment, Economic Development, and Social Issues confronting Kalinago Youth, which will guide the Councils work over the coming months.
