The Ministry of Health & Environment has received commendations for management of the Zika virus in Dominica. Representatives from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank recently visited Dominica between the 5th & 9th of July 2016. The PAHO team was here to conduct a rapid needs and cost assessment for health systems response to Zika. Senior Health Specialist with the World Bank Group Dr Fernando Lavadenz says the team was impressed with Dominica's ability to respond to the virus. The team reportedly held table-top exercises with health administrators, senior health officials, and economists from the Ministry of Finance, on assessing Dominica's response to Zika. However, Dr Lavadenz outlined three (3) key challenges the country faces in the long term. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health & Environment is said to be earmarked to receive technical and financial assistance from the three (3) organizations, following the visit.
