Motorists will reportedly soon be able to use the Dr Nicholas Liverpool Highway in Belles, after the Belles road near the Primary School, experienced culvert failure that required immediate remedial action.
In October, the Public Works & Ports Ministry signed a contract with Caribbean Concrete Ltd to undertake works at a cost of EC$1,475,533.15, for construction of a box culvert crossing, and a retaining wall in the area. During construction of the culvert, a section of the remaining road width was compromised through the collapse of the excavated road edge. This rendered the remaining section of road width insufficient to safely accommodate vehicular traffic, and forcing the temporary closure of the road beyond the Belles Primary School. According to a press release from the Ministry of Public Works and Ports, the road will be reopened for use today, however motorists are still being asked to exercise caution while construction continues on it.
