Murder dominates 2016 criminal session which got underway today at the High Court in RoseauÂ1/13/2016 Murder dominated the opening of the 2016 criminal session, which got underway today Tuesday at the High Court in Roseau. Nine murder cases are expected to be heard during the January session of the criminal court. Among them is the retrial of Manuela Williams, Loretta and Herbert Xavier of Soufriere who were jailed for 15 years after a jury found them guilty of killing their brother, Harrison Williams in 2010. Their conviction was later appealed, and the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court upheld the appeal, citing major errors during the trial by Judge Brian Cottle.
Their conviction was subsequently overturned by the ECSC in November 2014, and the trio were granted bail in the sum of EC$250,000. Other matters on the criminal cause list include unlawful sexual assault, drug trafficking, grievous bodily harm and indecent assault. Court Reporter, Carlisle Jno Baptiste, has more details. Clip:
