This bringsthe number of students now under the Bank’s scholarship programme to ten. Alexina will be entering the Goodwill Secondary School this September.
NBD’s scholarship programme started over 17 years ago, to provide deserving students with the necessary financial assistance to attend secondary school. The scholarships are awarded based on financial need. Each year, the Bank works with the Welfare Division to identify a deserving student. This school year, the Bank will spend approximately $10,000 to cover the cost of tuition, books, transportation, uniforms and other supplies for the scholarship students. Lilian Polydore, the Bank’s Executive Manager of Human Resource and Corporate Services, addressed the new recipient at a small ceremony at the Bank. Miss Polydore said, the NBD “believes in supporting the people in our communities, and this is one tangible way in which the Bank is putting its support behind the youth. We see long-term benefits in making this investment in our youth, benefits for the individual and for the communities in which they live.” Polydore congratulated Alexina, and encouraged her to be diligent in her educational pursuits. Natasha Etienne’s mother expressed profound thanks to NBD for their support. “Thank you for selecting my daughter as a recipient of this scholarship,” she said. “I cannot adequately express how appreciative I am of your investment in her education.” NBD encourages its scholarship recipients and all Dominican students to continue to be diligent and focused, so as to achieve the kind of success that comes with determination.
