With over 12 countries in the region reporting cases of the Zika virus, the Ministry of Health here is embarking on a cleanup campaign tomorrow, Thursday February 18, 2016 geared at reducing mosquito breeding sites.
The National cleanup day which involves all institutions in society, is being held under the theme "Stop Mosquito Breeding today, Keep Zika Away". Health Minister, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, says source reduction activities have proven to be one of the most important measures in controlling the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which transmits the Zika Virus. He says a multi-sectoral population based rigorous approach is being utilized by the Government, to achieve the goal of reducing the Aedes Aegypti population, and preventing the spread of the disease in the population.
