National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, is appealing to citizens to be each other’s keepers as the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season officially got underway Wednesday. Blackmoore is also the Minister of Disaster Management and he is urging Dominicans to open their homes to each other, particularly in areas where there are no hurricane shelters. The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season is expected to be the most active since 2012 with a total of 14 named storms, 8 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes forecasted during the season. This is greater than the 30 year historical average of 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes for the Atlantic basin. The Office of Disaster Management has been observing this week as Hurricane Preparedness week and Blackmoore is calling on persons to adhere to the guidelines and warnings being issued by the ODM.
