Still reeling from the effects of an earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince in 2010, Haiti was devastated by Hurricane Matthew, a category four hurricane, on October 4, 2016. This hurricane claimed the lives of over one thousand people and left many more homeless. It is estimated that over 1.4 million are in need of urgent assistance, including food, water and medical supplies. Help is pouring in from the international community and National Bank of Dominica Ltd (NBD) has come on board to support the outreach efforts. On November 2 2016, the Bank contributed $11,170.00 to the Haiti Relief Fund, which also includes donations from staff. The Executive Manager of Human Resource and Corporate Services, Ms. Lilian Polydore presented the cheque. Mr. Cecil Shillingford, Disaster Risk Management Specialist/Consultant at the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) received the cheque from NBD. NBD believes that no contribution in this situation is too much or too little. The Bank encourages all Dominicans to support Haiti in their endeavour to rebuild.
