New US Ambassador to Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Linda Taglialatela made her first official visit to Dominica, yesterday Wednesday 2nd March 2016. She met with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday.
Linda Swartz Taglialatela is a career member of the Foreign Service. In November 2015, President Barack Obama nominated her to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Barbados, with responsibilities for St. Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. She replaces Larry Palmer who served in that capacity for the past four years. “We’d like to welcome you on your sojourn here, whatever we can do to cause your sojourn to be successful we’re prepared to work with you,” Mr Skerrit told the Ambassador. During her visit, Ambassador Taglialatela will meet the Minister for National Security, Justice and Immigration, Rayburn Blackmoore, to advance discussion on a number of issues, including the US’ sponsorship of a coast guard base for the north. “Well it’s a pleasure to be here. My predecessor had a good and very warm relationship with the government of Dominica, and I hope to follow in his footsteps. I would certainly like to build on the relationship we have & strengthen it in various areas,” Ambassador Taglialatela said.
