Newly-crowned 2016 Carnival Queen Tasia Floissac says she is happy and excited to have won2/10/2016 Newly-crowned 2016 Carnival Queen Tasia Floissac said she is happy and excited to have won, shortly receiving the title. She overpowered five other contestants at a competition held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium forecourt on Friday night. Floissac also got the award for Best Talent. She said consistency was key. “I think consistency is what got me the crown tonight,” she said. “I did not win a lot of best-ins but every time I stepped on the stage, it was always the first time on stage for me, and I believe that because I put my best foot forward in every round, I was able to carry through all segments of the show.”
Floissac says she hopes to continue to promote Dominica, “especially Post Erika, to let people know that we were down but we were not out.” She said she always wanted to participate in the Miss Dominica pageant and after Nakita Bruno won, she believed “a small town girl can do it again.” Floissac says she looks forward to representing Dominica regionally and internationally. She thanked her team, family, sponsors - Dominica National Petroleum Company (DNPC) & the Universal Martial Arts Academy, and most of all, she thanked God, for carrying her. Nawana Shillingford of Loubiere secured the 1st runner-up position. She received the awards for Best Swimwear and Best in Swimwear. Britney Pharoah of Grand Bay won 2nd runner-up. She captured awards for Best Costume, Best in Costume, Best Evening Wear & Best in Evening Wear. Mernel Christmas of Campbell received the award for Best Response to Question while Judy Toussaint of San Sauveur copped the awards for Miss Photogenic and Miss Amity. The other contestant was Abigail Shillingford of Goodwill. The 2015 Carnival Queen was Odessa Elie.
