North East Coast Residents will meet in Marigot this evening to discuss the closure of the Marigot Hospital. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Marigot Credit Union Conference Room. It was reported that the hospital was first shut down in 2014, over the issue of termite infestation among other things, and all health concerns are currently being addressed at the Wesley Health Center. At a press conference on May 6, 2015, Health Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux said a new hospital for Marigot was in the cards, because it is a policy decision of the government. “Building a new hospital for Marigot is still a policy decision that the government has undertaken,” he said. “If you look at the Labour Party Manifesto, a new hospital for Marigot is to be built for a number of reasons.” However, MP for Marigot Lennox Linton said on Wednesday, the government is using the Marigot Hospital to play politics with the United Workers Party. “So the Marigot Hospital now has become an avenue where they are hoping to embarrass Lennox Linton by talking about whether or not he is representing the interest of his constituency”. North East Coast Residents say they will take all necessary actions to ensure that the matter is addressed.
