A site-visit to one of the badly damaged areas after the passage of TS Erika, will form part of the third meeting of OECS Ministers responsible for environmental portfolios, following the Revised Treaty of Basseterre having come into force. The meeting will take place from 4th to 5th May 2016, at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Environment Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux and Director General of the OECS Commission Dr. Didacus Jules will address tomorrow's opening. According to a release, the meeting’s agenda includes topics on ocean governance, water resources management, energy and climate change in addition to other relevant policy issues related to environmental sustainability, natural disasters, and Small Islands Development States (SIDS). Officials here have confirmed that preparations are well underway for the hosting of the Meeting, which will be followed by the opening of an exhibition on climate change on Thursday 5th May 2016. That exhibition is expected to showcase to the general public; various display pieces, informational spreads, educational posters and banners on climate change, environmental management and conservation. The OECS Commission has expressed enthusiasm at the potential opportunities that can be gained from the meeting, especially in strengthening relationships between OECS Members and Developmental Partners.
