Opposition Leader Lennox Linton appears poised to challenge the bill of costs that has been sent to him by the Attorneys of Chartered Accountant Kieron Pinard-Byrne in a defamation matter. Linton says the matter is political.
Linton says “Mr Kieron Pinard-Byrne has submitted what we call a bill of cost, he’s claiming money. As the respondent, I have the right to react, to disagree”. In a letter dated, April 21, 2016, attorneys for Pinard-Byrne, DeFreitas, DeFreitas and Johnson wrote to Linton demanding $340,926. 39 less £20,000 which he had paid earlier, arising out of a case which started in the local courts and went all the way to the London-based Privy Council. Whereas Pinnard Byrne’s Attorneys have given Linton no later than 28th of April to say if he is in agreement with the costs, Linton said the costs before the Privy Council are to be assessed by the Cost Clerk of the Privy Council if the parties do not agree on the costs. Linton says he disagrees with the costs and will file his points of dispute. He contends that it is the Courts and not DeFreitas, DeFreitas and Johnson, who will decide the balance to be paid after the February payment on account of 20,000 pounds, and he will await the outcome of that process.
