Opposition Leader writes to PM about Northeast residents’ concerns over closure of the Marigot Hospital

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Lennox Linton has written to Prime Minister Roosevelt, expressing the concerns of residents of Marigot and the North East, over the situation of the Marigot hospital, which is now closed.
 
Health Services have reportedly been moved to the Wesley Health Center; but officials say they plan to relocate the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department along with the health center back to Marigot.
 
In a letter dated 10th June 2016, which was addressed to Prime Minister Skerrit and copied to Health Minister Dr Kenneth Darroux, Mr Linton informed government of the decisions taken, during discussions held by residents of the north east on Thursday 9th June 2016.
 
Mr Linton is the MP for the Marigot Constituency. Among other things, his letter indicated that the people of the North East were requesting the following urgent actions by government:
 

1. Immediate relocation of the medical services to a suitable building in the Marigot community, such as the “Old foundation high school/ Martin Secondary School”, presently under the management of the youth development division;

 

1. Immediate commencement of preparatory work for the construction of a new state of the art National Health Care facility at the Marigot location to be funded by revenues collected from the Economic Citizenship program and completed within 18 months; and

 

1. Effective arrangements to ensure that no less than 75 percent of the expenditure on labour for the temporary relocation of the hospital and the construction of the new facility goes to residents of the affected area in general and Marigot in particular.”
