Pensioners have a bigger budget from now on as the 50% increase in the value of the non-contributory pension paid to senior citizens over the age of 70 years promised in this year’s national budget, was received by the beneficiaries at the end of September, 2016.
In addition, an agreement to increase the minimum pension paid by the Dominica Social Security (DSS) was attained much earlier than expected and therefore also became effective this September, 2016. According to a release, those paid fortnightly would have already received their first payment. The increase by the DSS means that those DSS pensioners who are over the age of 70 will receive the full EC$300.00 from the DSS and would not be receiving any further amount from the Government non-contributory program.
