PM Skerrit says amendments to Sexual Offences Act will not unnerve institution of marriage10/26/2016 Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says he does not believe that amendments to the sexual offences act will unnerve the institution of marriage. Local Pastors here have been vocal in their views on the proposed amendments to the Sexual Offences act which will now allow for husbands to be legally charged for marital rape. Pastor Randy Rodney shared the view that this amendment will give a new meaning to marriage. He stated further that marriage is not a function of the state and should not be treated as one. But PM Skerrit told parliament "Even if you are in a union, everyone still has his/her own rights". While there have been numerous calls for changes to be made to the Sexual Offences Act here, PM Skerrit says the laws alone will not be enough.
He called on members of society to take back their responsibilities which they have abdicated. PM Skerrit issued a stern warning to parents and religious leaders in particular.
