Farmers in the Northeast took to the streets last weekend in a bid to obtain sale for their produce and while they say it is a result of lack of markets, PM Skerrit says it has to do with the quality of the produce. Addressing the Official registration ceremony of the Belles Farmers Cooperative Thursday, PM Roosevelt Skerrit says the Ministry of Agriculture cannot be held responsible for the quality of produce. He claims that the bananas presented by the Farmers at Melville Hall last week were affected by the Yellow and Black Sigatoka disease. Mr. Skerrit says this is as a result of the Farmers not taking proper care of their farms. He says further that despite the assistance from the Government some of the farmers have been uncooperative in managing the Black Sigatoka disease.

PM Skerritt, why can't the minister of agriculture speak on the issue. However where is the foresight in preparing the farmers before the crop is ready for harvest.Bananas don't appear one day and ready for harvest the next few days. The problem started when you and your petty government chose the wrong persons to receive planters.Social science research tells us we should have gone with innovators and early adapters at this stage, but petty politics rules the day so this is the result of poor planning. Some of the early adapters should have been sent to St Lucia to observe the process there in preparation for the successful implementation of the plants. When you point one finger three come back to you,so blaming farmers only is not the way to go on this.
