Portsmouth Respite Day Care Centre for northern children living with disabilities, which commenced construction in March 2015, is reportedly now complete. It was scheduled to have been opened and operational in October 2015.
The project is located at Chance in Portsmouth, and was approved under the BNTF’s 6thProgramme. It will cater for 30 to 35 children between the ages of 3 and 18.It was funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of Dominica,at a cost of one million and forty-three thousand, five hundred and four dollars, and fourteen cents (EC$1,043,504.14). Sources indicate that operations were originally scheduled to open in October 2015, but due to certain setbacks, it is now should to commence operations in January 2016. Meanwhile, stakeholders hope they will soon receive a government subvention that was promised about two years ago. Stakeholders acknowledge their association requires a subvention of at least eighty thousand dollars ($80.000) to meet staff salaries and equipment needed to operate the Centre.
