Portsmouth Town Council to host Annual Northern Schools Rally today with 13 schools participating10/24/2016 The Portsmouth Town Council will host the Annual Northern Schools Rally from 9:00 am today, at the Benjamin’s Park, with thirteen (13) primary and secondary schools participating.
The Portsmouth Town Council has been organizing the Northern Schools Rally for the last ten years, and according to Mayor Francis it is something in which all residents anticipate, “because quite apart from the cultural finals that take place at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth, this is the only semi-official independence activity that takes places in Portsmouth, so people come out to see it”. Mayor Titus Francis said, “In the past we’ve been awarding students in the various categories of academics, sports and leadership qualities. This year is we are going one notch up and will provide them with plaques, which we believe will we be more substantial and long lasting for the students”. The event will include speeches from Portsmouth MP Ian Douglas, as well as representatives of the Education Ministry. This year’s featured speaker will be a teacher at Portsmouth’s St John’s Academy, Arl Anselm. The Cadet Corps, Scout Troop and other uniformed groups from the north are also expected to participate in the parade.
