Ambassador Lu Kun presented his letter of credence to President Charles Savarin, on Tuesday 15th November 2016 at the State House. Ambassador Kun replaces Ambassador Li Jiangning served here for a period of two years. He left the island in October 2016.
President Savarin, who welcomed Ambassador Kun to Dominica, informed him that the Peoples Republic of China remains one of Dominica’s most significant bilateral partners. He added that relations between both countries continue to develop steadily since the formalization of diplomatic relations in March of 2004. He noted that Dominica continues to benefit significantly through fruitful bilateral exchanges and cooperation in infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture, trade and other areas. President Savarin said “The Peoples Republic of China continues to facilitate the attendance of public and private sector officials at training workshop and seminars in China, and provides annually, several full scholarships to students of the Commonwealth of Dominica to pursue long term university programs for undergraduate, graduate and post graduate studies”. President Savarin noted that one hundred (100) government scholarships have been awarded by the People’s Republic of China to the government of Dominica since 2004, and the total number of Chinese sponsored short-term training seminars offered to Dominica during the period 2012 to 2016, stands at five hundred and forty-five (545). Ambassador Kun indicated that Dominica has been a “good friend and a partner” to China over the past twelve years, and that diplomatic relation has enjoyed “steady growth”. He added, “We have respected and supported each other on issues involving our respective core interests and major concerns, deepened political mutual trust, conducted fruitful cooperation across the board, and maintained close coordination on international affairs”. Ambassador Lu Kun concluded by saying, China “highly values” its relations with Dominica, and “stands ready to work with Dominica to bring bilateral relations to new highs, to the benefit of our countries and our peoples”.
