Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has extended his congratulations to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency on its 25th anniversary.
The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is a regional inter-governmental agency for disaster management in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The Prime Minister in a release stated that, Dominica is especially grateful to CDEMA for their work done in comprehensive disaster management. “…Your invaluable contribution to our efforts at disaster risk reduction, and your expertise provided, following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika in 2015, was vital to our immediate response and recovery efforts!” The Prime Minister went on to pledge to work with the CDEMA in fulfilling their mandate in responding to and working to reduce the risk and loss associated with disasters. The Agency was established in 1991 as CDERA (Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency) with primary responsibility for the coordination of emergency response and relief efforts to Participating States that require such assistance.
