Prime Minister Skerrit continues to defend the Dominica Labour Party’s proposed amendments Dominica’s the Electoral Laws. The DLP administration’s comments come in response to the push by the opposition United Workers Party, to educate the Dominican electorate on the political and legal implications of the amendments. Last week, Party leader Lennox Linton said the UWP will challenge the electoral amendments proposed by the DLP government, as they appear to have been designed to weaken the Integrity in Public Office Commission and the Electoral Commission, driven by political expediency and the desire to perpetuate the DLP in office. Prime Minister Skerrit says Mr. Linton’s proposal for two members of the opposition to be placed on the IPO have been accepted by the President of Dominica, his Excellency Charles Savarin. Meanwhile, Dominica’s Prime Minister Skerrit says the amendments that the Dominica Labour Party has proposed to be made to the Electoral Act, are no secret. He says now that the cabinet has reviewed the draft amendments, they may seek to engage the public in discussing the details.
