UWP Public Relations Officer and Retired Police Officer, Nicholas George, has added his voice to that of law enforcement officials, advising persons to refrain from making statements that will seek to identify an accused or victim in sexual offences matters.
He says this is especially critical in ensuring that any ongoing sexual offence investigation, and any subsequent court proceedings are not compromised. George made these comments in light of a recent sex scandal involving a 15-year old girl and three adult males. In a recent statement, Police PRO, Sergeant Pelham Jno Baptiste, appealed to the public, to allow the investigation to run its course, and to refrain from further speculation, as this can hinder the investigative process. George says persons who engage in such behaviour can be fined up to $50,000 or three years imprisonment.
