Rehabilitation of the Douglas Charles Airport continues to be a top priority for the government. The Douglas Charles airport suffered colossal damage during the passage of TS Erika in August 2015 which dumped over 10 inches of rain in just a few hours. The Melville Hall River flooded its banks and caused severe damage to the terminal's equipment, furniture and fixtures. As a result a major project was developed at the airport, aimed towards restoring safe operations, and implementing storm repairs while improving flood protection. Phase 1 of the project estimated at 31.2 million dollars is being funded by the citizenship by investment program. Phase 2, where funds were allocated for in the 2016/2017 fiscal budget will further increase resilience of the airport to weather such events like TS Erika.
