Just last week, a trough system dumped heavy rains on the island, causing flooding in numerous areas including the Macoucherie area, and resulting in concerns as to whether that partially damaged bailey bridge might be unsafe for use by motorists. During a visit to the area on Monday afternoon, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Ports, Kendall Johnson, assured the public that while the bridge did suffer some damage, it would not fail, however, it should be used with “due care and attention.” Meanwhile, Chief technical officer in Ministry of Public Works, Mr Emile Lancelot lists the works expected to be done on the bridge with the hope of beginning soon.
