Senior Project Coordinator Annie Edwards highlights the importance of a National Land Use Policy6/10/2016 Senior Project Coordinator of the National Land Use Project Annie Edwards says Dominicans are not aware of the importance of having a National Land Use Policy implemented here. The 2nd phase of a National Land use project commenced late last year. Phase one of the project, the development of a National Land Use Policy approved by Cabinet in May 2015, provides direction for uses and issues related to land use planning in Dominica. The National Land Use Policy set the foundation for all land use decisions, and describes how best to manage development, so as to improve the quality of life for Dominicans, through economic and social development, protecting human health and safety, and conserving the natural environment. Phase 2 of the project entails the preparation of the National Physical Development Plan and will be guided by the NLUP. It will also provide government agencies with a comprehensive planning framework for the efficient and effective coordination of development programs and projects. Edwards says now more than ever before; proper land use planning is needed in Dominica. She made the remarks on state owned radio on Thursday. Senior Project Coordinator of the National Land Use Project Annie Edwards Meantime, Consultant to the Public Education & Communications component of the project, Kenny Green, says persons have not been actively participating in the consultations being held. Green says he’s not pleased with the turnout. He is also of the view that Dominicans need to play a more active role in the implementation of the policy.
