Ski Couple Gary and Angelica Di Silvestri collect USD20,407 for Dominica families after Tropical Storm Erika
It has been just over seven months since the passage of TS Erika and aid relief continue to pour in from different groups and organisations around the world.
One of the most recent efforts is that of Gary and Angelica Di Silvestri. The two, who represented Dominica at the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in 2014, donated US$20, 407.00 to the Dominica Red Cross to help victims who suffered extreme loss.
Demonstrating profound concern for the victims, the Di Silvestris took the initiative to rally support from their friends and promised to match what they collected resulting in a total of USD20, 407.00 with their contribution amounting to USD10, 100.00. These funds were sent through Red Cross International to the Dominica Red Cross to assist affected households.
The Dominica Red Cross in an official statement expressed appreciation on behalf of the Dominican community noting the usefulness of sport in helping to transform lives in a positive and developmental way.
