The Skerrit-led DLP Government of Dominica has now created a clear perception that it is unsure as to whether it truly wants to see free and fair elections in the country, which is what the people truly desire. This revelation came on the heels of a report released by a joint electoral commission evaluation of the electoral system in Dominica, at the invitation of the DLP Government. The commission consists of members of CARICOM, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the organization of American States (OAS). Attorney General Levi Peter revealed some of the report's findings, saying that there are “some” aspects of the report that the government is in agreement with, but the reports finding may lead to “confusion “of the people, and is therefore unacceptable to the government. This message from the Attorney general clearly paints a picture by which the government of Dominica only accepts information and reports about Dominica that “they” see fit, and they can say what is and isn’t confusing to the people, when it comes to having a card that allows them to vote. The findings of CARICOM, the OAS, and the Commonwealth Secretariat, would then mean nothing when it comes to having voter ID Cards in the country, and having a free and fair electoral process, if the government decides what the people need and think, and accepts only information that allows them to run the affairs of the country on their own whims. Meantime, Peter says government is of the view that the recommendation from the recent Joint Special Mission to Dominica, in particular in relation to re-verification is unworkable. He says if implemented, this will cause confusion and disruption contrary to best practice, and importantly will not result in the required updating of the register, otherwise known as "cleansing of the list."
