Today marks 5 years since passing of Dominica Music Legend Jeff Joseph of ‘Grammacks’ band11/23/2016 Today marks 5 years since the passing of Dominican Music Legend Jeff Joseph. Jeff Jo as he was popularly known was the Grammacks Band lead singer for many years.
The band shot to fame in the early 70’s & 80’s with mega hits like “Mis Debaz”, and “Soukouyant”. The work of Jeff Joseph and the Grammacks helped to spearhead cadence music throughout the world, & helped give rise to Zouk and Compa music. The notable performances of Jeff Jo & the Grammacks came with their appearances during the “Tour de France” in 1977, and their halftime performance at the Miami Superbowl in 1979. The band also performed at the 1st World Creole Music Festival, and Jeff Jo was once again on stage at the 15th celebration of the WCMC. Jeff Jo reportedly died at 2:30 pm on Wednesday November 23, 2011, at a hospital in Martinique. In addition to being a musical icon he served as Dominica’s Goodwill Ambassador.
