Tourism Awareness Month celebrated every May ended with an Open Day Expo on Tuesday May 31, 20166/1/2016 Tourism Awareness Month celebrated every May, ended with an Open Day Expo on Tuesday May 31st, downstairs Government Headquarters.
Quality Assurance Officer with the Discover Dominica Authority (DAA) Samantha Letang, said the expo is in its second year running. Several local service providers participated in the expo, including the health and wellness sector, tour operator HHV Whitchurch & Co, the Dive sector, craft vendors from the Kalinago Territory, the Craft Producers Association, the Community Tourism Association (CTA), the Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association (DHTA) and the Tourism Ministry. They all showcased their products, services, events and promotions that are currently in effect. Mrs Letang noted that the expo also allows for better understanding of what tourism means to Dominica. “At the end of the day whether or not we work in tourism, it is still our business to know about this growing mass industry, so Tourism Awareness Month in general was actually doing something like that.” She advised that promotion of Tourism awareness was also done at different schools during the month. She added that the ministry is seeing a greater need for hosting this expo; “persons are becoming more interested in it, and wanting to come and participate, so we’re looking to grow it further every year”. The event was organized by the Ministry of Tourism & Urban Renewal, through the Discover Dominica Authority.
