Tourism Minister warns drivers on measures to reduce tourism-related accidents in Dominica11/17/2016 Tourism Minister Sen Robert Tonge has warned Drivers, that the Ministry of Tourism will be putting measures in place, to reduce tourism-related accidents in Dominica.
He said “Drivers have to go through a rigorous training program, and the buses will be inspected every year as well. In addition to that, we have actually put additional things in place; they have to carry a mechanical report on the bus, just to make sure it is in proper condition. We will be doing spot checks on the buses, to ensure that if any of them are not in good condition, we can get them out of the system.” Tonge says the police at the ports are checking buses to ensure that they have proper tires. Meanwhile the minister is urging agencies and citizens to refrain from spreading negative news, as he believes that will do more harm than good to the country. Senator Tonge stated “It is just unfortunate that positive news is not spread as much as negative news. You can go on any site and you can see it…. We have to be cognizant of that, and we have to ensure that we protect what is ours.” He continued, “What is ours is beautiful Dominica and we have to be careful how we spread those messages, as regards the impact that it will have on individuals.”
