Training has commenced for enumerators who will be assisting the ongoing study for dropout rates which has been commissioned by the government of Dominica. These training sessions are being conducted by consultant Gloria Shillingford. Earlier this year the government of Dominica engaged the former Minister for Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs as a consultant to investigate the increased cases of dropouts among students on island. The training sessions got underway Wednesday morning at the Garraway hotel, and Shillingford says in a small island state such as Dominica there is no room for dropouts in schools. Shillingford is to make recommendations to the Ministry of Education to identify to best way forward. And she says some short term recommendations are already being drawn up.
