From the 5th to 21st of August 2016 two athletes will be representing Dominica at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Yordanis Durañona García, a Cuban-born triple jumper, will be competing in the men’s triple jump, and Thea LaFond will compete in the women’s triple jump. Thea LaFond and Durañona García has represented Dominica in many international competitions including, Central American and Caribbean Championships Morelia, Mexico (1st Triple jump), Commonwealth Games, Pan American Sports Festival, Central American and Caribbean Games, among others. LaFond is competing in the qualifying round of the women’s triple jump on August 13th 2016, while Durañona García will compete in the qualifying round of the men’s triple jump on August 15th 2016. The opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics takes place on Friday at 7:00 pm and can be view live locally on Marpin 2k4 ltd, channel 35 and Digicel Play, channel 103. Reports do not confirm the amount of officials from Dominica who will be at the games since no announcement has been projected from the Dominica Olympics Committee.
