Two Dominican nationals will be traveling to Japan for training in the maintenance of fisheries machinery and equipment. Dominica’s Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Johnson Drigo, made this announcement while speaking at a handing over ceremony for the donation of some machinery and equipment to the Fisheries Division, on November 14, 2016.
He said “Early next year, two Dominicans are expected to travel to Japan, where they will undergo training in refrigeration, machine maintenance and troubleshooting.” Drigo continued “The five year project which commenced in 2013, aims to assist the fisheries division and fisher folks organization, to manage fish aggregating devices (FAD) fishing, in a collaborative manner known as co-management.” The Agriculture minister believes that training will help enhance the efficiency of the staff at the fisheries Division when the two return, and said the opportunity came from an ongoing project which was funded by JICA, through the fisheries management project.
