Unofficial reports indicate that the newly installed and highly touted 911 System is now under investigation, after reports that many calls to the system during an incident at a wedding reception in Loubiere failed to go through.
Two people were injured during the incident last Saturday evening. Source informed Q95 that many persons who were on the scene on Saturday evening, called 911 but got no response at all, some said the phone apparently never rang. That $1.8-million Emergency 911 (E911), as it is called, was launched in September 2016, and officials said then that it would contribute greatly to the safety and security of Dominicans. They stated that the system would be housed at Police Headquarters in Roseau, and that it would also be installed at the Princess Margaret Hospital. The public was also assured at that time, that the system has the capability of handling 500 calls on a daily basis.
