UWP strongly condemns continuing sexual atrocities and brutal assaults on children in Dominica3/2/2016 The Opposition United Workers Party has strongly condemned the continuing sexual atrocities and brutal assaults on Dominica’s children, and urges law enforcement authorities to ensure that all reports of abuse of minors in particular, are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
This statement by the Opposition follows recent reports that leading persons of influence in political and business circles, who were allegedly involved in the sexual molestation of a female minor, could possibly have the case against them quashed, by a combination of police indifference and hush money, and that possible outcome is particularly disturbing. In an official statement, the UWP said "regardless of political affiliation, social standing or religious persuasion, the individuals involved in this crime must be brought to justice, as an example of what should be a national policy of zero tolerance in defence of our children. As responsible adults especially in national leadership, we have a sacred responsibility to nurture our youth; to raise them up; to guide them; and to keep them safe under the unwavering protection of the rule of law. It is unacceptable to shirk our responsibility to act decisively and demand justice when they are abused, injured and traumatized, by unforgivable adult assaults on their humanity". The UWP joins the call for an urgent get-together of members of parliament, law enforcement officials, the leadership of the Church and Civil Society organizations to agree on more effective ways to defeat the growing scourge of child abuse.
