Attorney Gabriel Christian contends that the incumbent DLP regime is opposed to genuine electoral and campaign finance reforms due to corruption, exploitation and schemes involving misuse of resources. He claims that rich individuals and so-called friends exploit the island, while hospitals lack supplies. He laments that despite donations, the national library is in ruins, but an airport is being built which some view as a laundromat. He contends that Chinese interests control the country, and the director of audit is unable to audit funds from sales generated from the passport sales program. Christian says the disregard of financial and procurement laws is a constitutional violation, and that the Dominican government is holding off on electoral reform in order to hold onto power, hide criminal activity, and steal from the people’s resources. Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Dr. Thomson Fontaine, expressed the opinion that fostering the growth and development of young individuals through the systematic promotion of the knowledge industries, is a key direction that should be pursued. He added that providing such young individuals with the means to explore the various facets of technology, could potentially allow them to become proficient in the creation of apps, websites, and even artificial intelligence (AI) systems, in which Such expertise could pave the way for the creation of new employment opportunities for them. According to Fontaine, young people are frequently labeled as the party or sewo generation. Nonetheless, he posits that such characterization is a response to the prevailing circumstances of scarcity of substantive job prospects for young people, resulting in a dearth of opportunities for upward mobility. United Workers Party (UWP) leader, Dr. Thomson Fontaine.
President of the United Workers Party (UWP) Lennox Linton laments that contemporary technology has brought to light the precarious foundation on which the process of nation building stands. He says this is resulting in a sense of insecurity, marginalization, and disconnection of the youth, from a system that has consistently demonstrated its inability to provide effective solutions to their real-world challenges. Linton believes Dominica is currently experiencing the consequences of its bad investments without substantial collaboration and involvement by the youth, over the course of several years. According to Linton, the learning process for young individuals occurs not only within the confines of a classroom but also outside of it and as such, it is imperative to establish a method of integrating resources for youth development in a manner that enables the acquisition of comprehensive skill sets. President of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton.
