Bernard Hurtault, leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), is urging every Dominican to unite and reject Roosevelt Skerrit's pursuit of psychological dominance over the people. He added that Dominicans are intelligent and independent-minded people and questioned why they permit Mr Skerrit to exert such psychological control over them. Hurtault continued by saying that a lot of people hold the opinion that psychological dominance is bad, and that it is improper for a little, mediocre guy to want to exert such power over the people. A two-day workshop on enhancing the adoption and use of SLM concepts and technologies in Dominica, which is being held by the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), began on Tuesday November 29, 2022. Dr. Dave Lloyd who is working on two regional PISLM projects as the watershed management consultant, will be the host of the sessions.
These two projects, "Strengthening Resilience of Agricultural Lands and Forests in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria" and "Sustainable Land Management in the Commonwealth of Dominica," are funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP, and carried out by the PISLM. They aim to advance landscape-level planning, information and coordination frameworks to support sustainable agriculture and sustainable watershed management. Dominica's forest resources continue to be unstable and decreasing due to human demands and the effects of recent catastrophic weather occurrences. This two-day interactive workshop emphasizes the necessity for methodical techniques to protect the island's crucial ecosystems and engages the use of solid ecological principles to steer restoration efforts in light of the difficulties made worse by these unfavorable weather circumstances. In order to better manage and conserve Dominica's woods, it is planned that forestry field employees gain the necessary skills. Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Thomson Fontaine declared that the Party will keep pressing the DLP government to implement electoral and campaign finance reforms and conduct a general election as soon as possible thereafter. The UWP's decision to abstain from participating in the snap general elections on December 6, according to Dr Fontaine, was motivated by the announcement of a sham December 6th election, more than 30 months earlier than it is constitutionally due, before the promised reforms, and contrary to the advice of the CCJ, is because it is immoral, and also because the current process is illegal. He was speaking at a UWP press conference yesterday afternoon. In light of the present challenges to Dominica's democracy, Dr Fontaine said, the UWP once more calls on the country's president Charles A Savarin, to use his constitutional executive authority to suspend his writ and postpone this sham general election, until the electoral and campaign finance reforms are completed and implemented. In her remarks at the Dominica State College's student government body's pinning ceremony, National Youth Council President Ashma McDougall sought to emphasize the significance of the group and what they stand for. Even while student government may frequently go unobserved by typical college students, its influence can be seen all across the campus. Ms McDougall also stressed how privileged the students at Dominica State College are to have the chance to express their opinions. She noted that they added a sports representative because of the fiercely competitive nature of the college's athletes, and because they felt it was appropriate to have more representation in that field. She thanked the newly initiated executive members and expressed confidence in their ability to exert influence on the campus. National Youth Council President, Ashma McDougall

Bernard Hurtault, leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), believes that the Dominica Labour Party government's lack of skills contributed to the country's failure to develop a dynamic growth economy, or to have a clear understanding of economic principles. He was speaking on the Electoral Reform Coalition Program on Q95 on Sunday afternoon. Hurtault added that he has also come to believe that the DLP Administration is purposefully fostering a dependency-based societyin order to give the Dominica Labour Party exclusive control over the people. The communities in the east, the villages of Castle Bruce, San Sauveur, Good Hope, and Petite Soufriere, who were impacted by the recent damage from unexpectedly torrential rainfall, continue to receive support from the government of Dominica. In order to reassure the populace that he is on their side during these difficult times, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted the steps being taken to relocate the residents of these towns. Additionally, he mentioned the initiatives taken for other Dominicans in the wake of Hurricane Maria and Tropical Storm Erika. Mr. Skerrit now pledges to ensure that affected residents have access to suitable, resilient housing. Mr. Skerrit informed residents that the government will offer income support for families in need wherever necessary as part of the support system. Other types of workers, such as farmers and fishermen, will also receive financial support, he claimed. However, he gave no indication as to how much would actually be paid to each of the persons affected, or when these monies would be paid to them. Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.
